How long do breast implants last?
Modern implants aren't lifetime devices, but many last 10–20 years or longer without issue. Dr. Freiman recommends routine check-ups and, for silicone implants, MRI screening as advised by the FDA. There's no set replacement schedule — you'd only replace them if a problem arises or you want to change size or type.
Can I still breastfeed after augmentation?
Many women breastfeed successfully after augmentation, though results vary. Incision type and implant placement can affect the milk ducts and sensation, so Dr. Freiman discusses this in detail and tailors his approach for patients who plan to breastfeed in the future.
What's the difference between silicone and saline?
Silicone implants are pre-filled with a cohesive gel that feels closer to natural tissue. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water after insertion, which allows a smaller incision. If a rupture occurs, silicone stays within the shell while saline is safely absorbed. Both are FDA-approved — Dr. Freiman helps you decide which suits your anatomy.
How do I choose the right size?
Size is decided together, based on your chest measurements, existing tissue, skin elasticity, lifestyle, and the look you're after. Dr. Freiman uses sizing systems and before-and-after references during your consultation so you can communicate your goals clearly.
Is augmentation covered by insurance?
Cosmetic breast augmentation generally isn't covered by insurance. Augmentation performed as part of breast reconstruction after mastectomy may be covered. Dr. Freiman's team can walk you through financing options and payment plans.
